Broken lights and itchy garland.
Shattered ornaments and off-key singing.
The feels and sounds of decorating for this holiday. A Holy day. Lots of frustration and exhaustion. It’s only the last day of November and already we are all tired.
Then, we sat down together to light the first advent candle. Surrounded by ornament boxes and ribbon, we wipe the mess aside to spend time with the One who came to this mess.
Where two or more are gathered in His name, He is there. In our presence. He is here. Isn’t that just what we are celebrating?
God with us. We light the candle, and read the Holy words of prophecy.
The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. (Isaiah 9:2 )
He shines into our home. He fills our hearts as we press on into the month of December. My orphan husband will celebrate another holiday without his parents. Our children will teach us so much about the love of our Heavenly Father. Oh, the grace!
I’m overcome by tears as I pray and praise thanksgiving for the time gathered together in His presence. With them, with Him, the frustration melts and turns to joy. The exhaustion changes to energy. Time spent in His Word is always an investment.
How rich we are!
